Comment on today's net migration statistics

Comment on today

February 22, 2018

Commenting, Alp Mehmet, Vice Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said:

There are still nearly 100,000 more EU citizens arriving than leaving.
This is hardly a ‘Brexodus’.

The fall in overall net migration is welcome but it is still running at nearly a quarter of a million a year – far above the government’s target. This will mean building a city the size of Birmingham every two or three years.

Brexit must further reduce net migration from the EU and the government must redouble its efforts to cut the net inflow of 200,000 from outside the EU.

Note to editors:
Figures on National Insurance Number registrations for EU nationals for the year to December 2017 show a fall of 129,000 on the year but still stood at 497,000.
