UK to require thousands more schools, surgeries and roads as a result of migration

Migration Watch UK has examined the implications for Britain's infrastructure of continuing mass immigration. The starting point was net migration continuing at the current record level of 606,000 per year. This would cause Britain's population to skyrocket to between 83 and 87 million by 2046. It would equate to creating fifteen cities the size of Birmingham.

In this latest report, Migration Watch examines the infrastructure needs of these "fifteen new Birminghams," encompassing schools, hospitals, and roads..

Here is what the numbers are telling us:

• Education: The immense requirement for 6,675 new schools, 165 further education colleges, and 75 universities threatens severe strain our education system.
• Healthcare: The necessity for 2,640 GP surgeries and 135 hospitals is likely to cause prolonged waiting times for crucial medical services.
• Transport: The creation of 7,785 new roads and 2,235 bus lanes is expected to worsen traffic congestion.

Commenting, Alp Mehmet, Chairman of Migration Watch UK said:

Unless we cut immigration substantially, the infrastructure that supports our public services, already stretched to its limits, will simply be unable to cope. We need a wider and franker debate and not just about the number of Immigrants.
