Migration Watch UK comment on offshore processing plan for those in illegal boats

April 14, 2022

Commenting, Alp Mehmet, Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said:

In the past four years, tens of thousands of people have come without prior permission in dangerous trips by boat. These trips have led to dozens of deaths, have profited criminal smugglers and are a legitimate source of concern, indeed anger, for millions of Britons.

Offshore processing was part of Australia's successful policy to stop the illegal boats and many people were prevented from drowning. We need to see more details of this aspect of the UK government’s plan to fix our overwhelmed and abused asylum system but offshore processing could yet help to stem this vile trade.
