Once again, the warnings made by Migration Watch have been proved right. Recently, David Miles – a leading economist at the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) – admitted what we saying years ago: ”there are serious problems with the idea that faster population growth can consistently alleviate fiscal problems.” Quelle surprise.

Migration Watch pointed this out in 2014: “Arguments that immigration to the UK is vital for the economy, in particular that it is enhancing of UK productivity, are exaggerated.”

And we did so again in 2019: “Despite many misleading claims to the contrary, the research consensus is that immigration overall has been and continues to be a significant annual fiscal cost for the UK.

The Tory government ignored these warnings, while the Labour government is now making matters even worse – and taxpayers  continue to pay the price. To see the OBR admitting the obvious is welcome. And we applaud David Miles’s courage to say so.

If only they had listened to us!
