The Economic Impact Of Immigration

Robert Rowthorn, Emeritus Professor at Cambridge University, gave written evidenceto the House of Lords Economic Affairs Select Committee about the economic impact of immigrationon the UK.

Professor Rowthorn highlights that “…large-scale immigration will lead to a rapid and sustained growth in population………overcrowding, congestion, pressure on housing and public services, and loss of environmental amenities… It also undermines the labour market position of the most vulnerable and least skilled sections of the local workforce.”

Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migrationwatch, also submitted a paperto the Committee. The document concluded that the overall economic benefits of immigration, in terms of GDP per head and fiscal impact, were largely neutral.
