Migration Statistics: Students

Commenting on the latest
Migration Statistics
, Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said:

“A reduction of a
third in one year is welcome evidence that the government’s policies are
starting to take effect.   Immigration from outside the EU is down by
60,000 but visas for university students in 2012 were up by 3%. The
universities have been wrong to claim that their sector was suffering from the
restrictions designed to tackle bogus college students. Industry should be
pleased that work permits were also up by 2.5 % last year and business visitors
were up 100,000 to 1.7 million.
