We Need An Honest Immigration Debate

Professor Robert Rowthorn of Cambridge University offers his views on the Government’s assertion that “Migrants contribute £6 billion to the GDP”. He emphasises, in an article the Sunday Telegraph of 21 October, that what individuals wish to know is whether they are financially better off because of mass immigration. It is, therefore, GDP per head which is the crucial figure. The Professor concludes that “…their [immigrants] fiscal impact is largely neutral.”
