The following are the Acts on the subject of immigration and asylum currently on the statute book:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Immigration Act 1971<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Immigration Act 1988<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Asylum and Immigration Appeals Act 1993<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Asylum and Immigration Act 1996<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Special Immigration Appeals Commission Act 1997<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Immigration and Asylum Act 1999<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Asylum and Immigration (Treatment of Claimants, etc.) Act 2004<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; UK Borders Act 2007<\/p>\n<p>2&nbsp; &nbsp;Each Act since 1971 has heavily amended earlier Acts and introduced substantial new provisions, with the result that legislation on these topics is diffuse and complex. There is a desperate need for a consolidation Act to tidy up the law, but there is no sign of that as yet.
