There is still no complete list of the dead and missing after the inferno that left Grenfell Tower a burnt-out shell. On the North Kensington streets outside, journalists are busy recording local conspiracy theories about why the provisional recorded number of the dead stands at 79, rather than the much higher figures that had been put forward in the immediate aftermath. One reporter was told: “The authorities are just trickling out the numbers of dead, because if people knew the real figure, there’d be a riot.”
