Sir, It is clear that the EU is not bluffing when it says that the British government has to resolve the issues over the UK’s leaving bill, protection of EU nationals in Britain and the Northern Ireland border before the EU will negotiate on a trade deal (“May renews threat to walk away from EU without a deal”, News, May 1). It suggests that some British politicians are deluding themselves if they think that the EU is going to cave in on this. Can I request Theresa May moves to a speedy resolution of the first two of these issues so that trade talks can begin.
