  • But trio vanished on April 5 just after 4.30pm and the police need to find them

A family of asylum seekers who went missing from a Stockport hotel left because the children were frightened of being there.

Shelan, in her 30s, disappeared with Anas, 11, and ten-year-old Sana from the scandal-hit Britannia Hotel in Stockport, Gtr Manchester.

The hotel was hit by a scabies outbreak in November and claims of inhumane treatment and rubbish left in corridors.

The family - believed to be Iraqi Kurds - went missing on the afternoon of April 5.

Another asylum seeker told MailOnline: 'I saw the woman a few times with the boy and girl.

'The children did not look happy. I had not been there long so asked her what it was like.

'She said: "We don't like it here. The children are a bit frightened". Someone else said they had come here on a boat.'

There are guards inside the hotel near the reception and neighbours claim it has been closed to the public for months. Paint is peeling on the walls.

The male asylum seeker said: 'It's not great here. There's rubbish around can be a bit smelly. But at least it's safe.'

One local neighbour Richard Ward, 37, said: 'I think the hotel has been closed to the public for at least a year.

'There's only asylum seekers here. They don't cause any trouble but you a lot of them hanging around. 'It's single men and families too.

'The hotel is a bit grotty and there was the scabies outbreak last year.

'I think they have being try to make it better as you see workmen coming and going.'

The mother named Shelan and her two children Anas and Sana vanished over a week ago from the Britannia Hotel in Stockport.

Authorities say the last time they were seen at the premises, which is approved to house asylum seekers, was on April 5 at 4.30pm.

Police issued passport photos of the trio this morning, who they admit could now have traveled outside of the county.

A source told MailOnline: 'They are a family of asylum seekers.

'There is not any criminal element to it, but the authorities just want to find out where they are.

'Realistically they could be anywhere in the UK.'

In November last year it was reported an unnamed hotel housing asylum seekers had faced a scabies outbreak and claims were made of 'inhumane treatment'.

Stockport Council said people were 'cooped up' for a number of months.

At the time Human rights charity Rapar said piles of rubbish were left in corridors and insects were found in food.

Serco, which runs the hotel, had said there were 'currently no cases of scabies'.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: 'Can you help police find a missing family from Stockport?

'Shelan and her two children were last seen at the Britannia Hotel, Stockport on April 5 at 4.30pm.

'It is believed the family are travelling across the UK.'
