Asylum seekers living in a hotel targeted by far-right protesters have been placed on a daytime curfew and given training on how to keep safe.

Restrictions have been put in place at the Suites Hotel in Knowsley, Merseyside, after violent clashes between anti-migrant activists and counter-protesters last Friday night. Fifteen people, including a 13-year-old boy, were arrested. A police officer and two members of the public suffered minor injuries during the disorder.

A peaceful protest and counterprotest had been taking place outside the hotel when a group of people arrived who were “only interested in causing trouble”, police said.

Further protests are planned for this weekend outside hotels accommodating asylum seekers in Rotherham and Skegness, among other places. Despite the violence, asylum seekers are not
