Asylum seekers in Britain have already gone into hiding because they fear being removed to Rwanda, a report from immigration charities has said.

There are also widespread reports of asylum seekers deciding not to claim support for physical and psychological ill health because they fear the NHS will pass their details to the Home Office.

A joint report by the British Red Cross and the Refugee Council, which last year collectively worked with nearly 44,000 people at all stages of the asylum process, warned that existing problems with the asylum system were getting worse because of the new Rwanda policy.

They also reported cases of asylum seekers disappearing from hotels where they are being held while their applications are processed, as well as “distressing” reports
