More than 3,000 migrants have crossed the Channel this month, Home Office figures show.

The milestone was reached after 395 crossed in 12 small boats yesterday. In total, almost 500 attempted the crossing on Monday, with the French authorities intercepting 101 in four boats before they reached UK waters.

Yesterday’s successful crossings took the tally for March to 3,075 in 146 boats — the highest monthly total since November, when 6,869 arrived. It is also more than triple the 831 arrivals in March 2021.

Since January, 4,559 migrants have crossed the Channel in small boats.

That figure was not reached last year until mid-June, suggesting that this year will beat 2021’s record-breaking 28,526 crossings.

There have also been 20 times the number of arrivals this
