The French government is seeking to help a “significant number” of refugees to reach the UK.

The country’s officials have been ordered to identify refugees, mainly unaccompanied minors, able to claim asylum in Britain because they have family here, according to documents seen by The Times.

The attempt to move some of the refugees from the camp near Calais known as the Jungle and other sites across France coincides with the ruling by an immigration tribunal in London that four young Syrian refugees should be allowed to bypass the normal asylum process. Hundreds of child refugees are expected to benefit from the ruling and travel on to Britain having previously been prevented from doing so.
